Robogames is this weekend in Fort Mason

RoboGames is the world’s largest open robot competition (even the Guinness Book of World Records says so!) We invite the best minds from around the world to compete in over 70 different events. Combat robots, walking humanoids, soccer bots, sumo bots, and even androids that do kung-fu. Some robots are autonomous, some are remote controlled – but they’re all cool! As an open event, anyone can compete – this means you.

And two weeks left to enter the Instructables Robot Contest!

Robots are never going to take over the world if we don’t get off the couch and make them ourselves! That’s why we’ve teamed up with the folks at RoboGames to bring you the Robot Contest! Want to win a trip to RoboGames 2009? Tell us how you made your robot.

Good robot design is highly detailed, so we’re asking you to document specific parts of your robot for this contest. Maybe you built the ultimate manipulator arm, designed a killer sensor array, reused some great trash, or just made a gorgeous housing – pick something you’re proud of, and share how you made it.

Show us what you and your robots can do, and win a trip to go to RoboGames, flight and hotel room included! We’re also giving away a RoboPhilo Walking Android kit, and lots of Robot-themed gear.

ArtBots 2008 Call for Works

ArtBots (http://artbots.org) is pleased to announce that the fifth international ArtBots exhibition for robotic art and art-making robots will take place at the Trinity College Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland on September 19-21, 2008. Creators of talented robots are invited to submit their work for possible inclusion in the show.

We have no fixed idea of what qualifies as robotic art; if you think it’s a robot and you think it’s art, we encourage you to submit your work. Regardless of whether it’s hi-tech, low-tech, or neg-tech, we’re interested in the ideas you’re working with, not just the gear. Proposals for workshops, performances, and other kinds of participation are also welcome.

Each ArtBots is a bit different; the location changes and we invite new humans to co-curate the show with us. We hope that by changing the specifics of the show each year we can keep it accessible to a diverse range of people, works, and ideas.

Call for Artists: Wearable Computing

Exploratorium has a call for artists out for 2nd Skin, our wearable computing event and exhibition. The deadline is a rapidly approaching Feb 29th. They are doing well with fashion submissions, but need more wearable computing and innovative apparel technology – the Make kinda stuff. The focus is on local artists, although we can accept shipped works as well.

Jonathan Barcan one of the co-curators of “Yuri’s Night Bay Area 2008″ contacted me to let you know about a call for artists.

The event is Saturday, April 12th from 2pm – 2am… submissions are due by February 8th.
